Hyperbaric oxygen therapy in ICU

Dear colleagues,

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HOT) consists in breathing therapeutic gases at a pressure superior to the atmospheric pressure. Its development has been closely related to the development of diving medicine and the first use of hyperbaric chamber goes back to the 18th century In Europe. Nowadays, HOT has a wide range of indications, some are internationally recognized, while others are debated. The physiological basis of HOT is linked to the comportment of gases under hyperbaric condition according to the physical laws of gases. Hyperoxia has specific metabolic effects that could be interesting in several pathologies.

The aim of the present study is to evaluate the state of knowledge regarding physiological basis of HOT and its main indications in intensive care unit, among anesthesiologist and intensive care physicians. You are invited to fill in a brief survey to help us better understand this subject.
